Football Community Policing Program – AZLEOS Code 3 Sports
Who wants to play football, be part of a community policing program that can have a lifelong impact and raise money for charity programs (Shop with a Cop and Triple 999 Officer Needs Assistance programs)?
In conjunction with Maricopa Co. Community Colleges District PD, Salt River PD and Arizona Law Enforcement Outreach & Support (AZLEOS), we are launching our first foray into AZLEOS Code 3 Sports.
…
The first sport for the program is going to be flag football (8-man with blocking.) The goal will be to have teams of First Responders and teams of underserved juveniles working with football programs at the valleys colleges/universities. The two teams will practice together and share the same coaches. The coaches will be college/high school coaches and volunteer college student athletes. After a practice schedule that will allow for sufficient bonding and mentorship opportunities between the First Responders, kids and student athletes, the teams will play the corresponding (adult v adult/kid v kid) team from the other locations. The season will culminate in a championship game to be played in a college stadium.
This year we are starting out with just two teams. One will be based at Salt River/SCC and organized by the Salt River PD. They will be working with kids from Salt River High School. The contact there is Edward Alameda Edward.Alameda@srpmic-nsn.gov.
The other team will be in Mesa at MCC and will be organized by Maricopa Co. Community Colleges PD and AZDPS. The contacts there are Jim Hill james.hill@mesacc.edu and Chris Scott cwscott@azdps.gov. We anticipate that this team will be working with kids from Westwood and/or Dobson High Schools.
If you are interested in playing please email as soon as possible with which team you would like to participate.
*Mesa practices will start shortly. We will be holding them on Sunday mornings in the MCC stadium.
We are anticipating holding our charity championship game in mid to late May and it will be a night game.
*Eligibility for the First Responder team will be limited to active duty/retired Law Enforcement (civilian or sworn), full time EMS/Fire (sworn/civilian), and active duty/retired military. Based on space available we may open up participation to include; spouse, offspring and sibling in case a team also wants to compete in the Police/Fire Games.
